To make your blog famous in Google search, it is important for you to understand how Google ranks a web page or a website. To help you in this, I have come up with this post to let you understand how does Google rank pages. But first, you need to realize the working methodology of Google.
How Google Works?
Like all other search engines, Google has a search engine spider named ‘Google BOTS’, whose work is to crawl the web and index any new webpage/website in its database. These search engine spiders are responsible for ranking pages in Google SERPs (search engine result pages). But, the working methodology of Google is not as simple as just crawling and indexing of web pages. Google has a big ranking algorithm parameter of around 200 factors on which it measures the value of web pages and ranks them accordingly. Google has never disclosed its all the ranking algorithm factors to maintain its result quality, but a few of the most important ranking factors are known by almost all the SEO experts.
Let’s check out those factors with a brief information on all of them.
- Relevancy of Keyword: Google ranks web pages by keywords. So, the more relevant will a keyword be, the better will be the ranking of web pages.
- Meta Tags: Meta tags are important for both Google and the search engine users. Google takes information from meta tags to show up the title and description of web pages in the SERPs. You need to make them SEO-friendly in order to get your blog noticed by Google.
- Images: Google, like any other search engine, can’t read images, so you are required to put an ALT (alternative) tag to name an image. The ALT tags which Google find with images on a web page are checked by Google Bots and thus it works as an important ranking algorithm factor of Google.
- External Links: Google gives some value and ranking to every web page, and if you use external links in your web page, they affect the ranking of your web page in the way Google values them. So, be wise in putting an external link on your web page.
- Webpage Speed: It is another important factor that is counted among the ranking algorithm factor of Google. The lighter your web pages will be, the faster will be the page load time and the better will be the search engine ranking of the web pages.
